Wildcats.
Football, friendship and a place to belong. Our Wildcats gives girls the chance to play, grow in confidence and enjoy football together. From their first kick to their first match, there’s a football journey waiting to begin at Rothley Imps.
Their football. Their friends. Their future.
Wildcats is our all-girls football setup, bringing together girls who love the game and those discovering it for the very first time. It’s a place to make friends, try something new and feel part of the Imps family.
You don’t need to have played before. With encouragement from our coaches and teammates, girls can learn at their own pace, build their skills and discover just how much fun football can be.
One girl’s experience. An opportunity for many.
Our story began in summer 2024. Having started at mini-dribblers, one young Imp reached her final season of mixed U6 football as the only girl among 24 children. When she decided to leave that group, her dad wanted to create an opportunity for girls to play together.
Working with the club, parents, and with equipment support through the FA Wildcats programme, he helped launch a weekly girls--only session. Around 20 girls came along at the start. By summer 2026, more than 40 were involved.
Small beginnings. Moments to remember.
Our first match in June 2025. Our first win that December. Our older girls’ first league game in January 2026. Each has had a special moment in the Wildcats story.
But the moments between matches matter just as much; girls arriving excited to see their friends, encouraging a teammate, trying again after a setback and growing in confidence every week.
They’re learning to play football, and learning what it means to be part of a team.
A pathway that grows with them.
Some Wildcats began at mini-dribblers, others joined from elsewhere or having never played before. There’s more than one way to start your journey.
For the 2026/2027 season, our Wildcats have:
Two U9 teams playing league football
An U7 team taking part in regular matches
An U6 team building skills and preparing for matches
Our ambition is to keep building a pathway across more age groups, so girls can see a future for themselves at Rothley Imps for years to come.
Their passion for football could start with you.
The Wildcats began because parents saw an opportunity and helped make it happen. More parents and carers getting involved will help us give even more girls the chance to play.
There’s interest in new age groups and room for our story to grow. To take that next step, we need volunteers who can help turn that interest into a reality.
You bring the enthusiasm. We’ll provide the backing.
You don’t need to arrive as a football enthusiast or expert. Patience, encouragement and a willingness to learn are a great place to start.
Our existing coaching teams and Rothley Imps Junior FC can offer support and guidance as you find your feet. You’ll be helping girls build confidence, make friendships and discover a love for football, while sharing in the moments that make being part of a team so special.
Whether you’d like to explore coaching or find out how else you could help, we’d love to hear from you.
More support. More teams. More girls playing.
Our hope is to see Wildcats teams across every age group, with a clear journey from mini-dribblers into girl’s team football.
Every parent or carer who steps forward helps bring that ambition closer.
